This extremely limited ‘Away’ colourway of the Nike SB 'Raygun Tie-Dye' Dunk Low Pro has arrived to take you into the new decade in true style. Hinting at the original release of the Raygun in the early 2000’s, little has changed with white leather overlays still dominating the front of the shoe and running into the eyestays. However the lateral panels have been reimagined with tones of yellow and orange being introduced within a tie-dye pattern rather than the original colour-blocking. A black leather swoosh cuts through the sides and runs into the heel flanked by the embroidered motif of the ‘Rayguns’ themselves, a small green alien with a ray gun in either hand.

Designed by Sandy Bodecker, the Dunks became notorious for reinventing what was expected in a skate shoe. The additional padding around the collar of the shoe and tongue generated support that skaters had previously only been able to get from the likes of Jordan shoes. In addition to this, they were the first skate dedicated shoes that had a Zoom Air Unit (which had traditionally been reserved for athletic shoes) creating crucial cushioning from impact whether you’re on or off the board.

The name Raygun was given to a fictional basketball team Nike developed in the early 2000’s, inspired by the infamous 1947 Roswell UFO incident, but had become a personal favourite concept of Bodecker who was often seen wearing tie-dye hoodies with the logo. After his passing last year, Nike have combined all of these great attributes into a shoe that is as iconic as the first release.
